Diameters, Threads and Fit Requirements

Define how diameters, shoulders, bores and threads relate to the mating assembly—not just nominal size.

Outside Diameters and Bores

Specify finished sizes, tolerances and the length of each fitting surface. Identify bearing seats, locating diameters and bores that control assembly clearance or interference.

Threads and Engagement

Provide the thread standard, size, pitch and tolerance class where required. Show internal or external threads, usable engagement length and any sealing requirements.

Datum Relationships and Runout

Identify the datum axis and the relationships between critical diameters and faces. Specify runout, perpendicularity or other geometric controls where required by the design.

Shoulders, Grooves and Surface Roughness

Define shoulder locations, groove geometry and the roughness of functional surfaces. Include mating-part references where they affect axial location, retention or sealing.

For precision CNC turning, diameter tolerance, geometric control and surface roughness are separate requirements. Each should be defined for the relevant feature.

Shafts and Stepped Pins

PinsShaft machining services for stepped diameters, shoulders and threaded ends. Identify bearing seats, locating surfaces and the relationships between them.

Bushings and Sleeves

Bushing machining services for parts with related internal and external diameters. Define bore size, wall thickness, length and fitting requirements.

Fittings and Threaded Components

Custom turning for rotational connectors and threaded parts. Specify thread details, internal passages and any sealing or mating surfaces.

Secondary Features: Cross-Holes and Flats

Show non-turned features relative to the turned surfaces so the complete route can be reviewed.

Cross-Holes and Radial Threads

Define hole size, depth and location relative to the shaft axis or shoulder. Identify internal intersections that require deburring.

Flats, Slots and Keyways

Show feature width, depth and orientation. Mark any angular relationship to cross-holes, threads or other assembly features.

Additional Finishing Operations

Critical fits or surface requirements may need grinding or another finishing operation. The sequence is reviewed around material condition and final acceptance requirements.

CNC lathe services may be combined with drilling, milling or grinding. The route is confirmed per part, not assumed to need one setup.

CNC Turning Materials

Stainless Steel

Stainless steels are widely used in CNC machining due to their excellent corrosion resistance and strength.

Carbon Steel/ Alloy Steel

Carbon and alloy steels offer high strength and durability for mechanical components, shafts, and industrial parts.

Aluminum

Aluminum alloys are lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and easy to machine. They are commonly finished with anodizing or coating to enhance surface durability.

Titanium

Titanium and other high-strength alloys provide exceptional strength-to-weight ratios and corrosion resistance.

Plastic

Engineering plastics such as POM (Delrin), Nylon, and ABS are easy to machine and lightweight.

Copper & Brass

Copper and brass are ductile and offer good thermal and electrical conductivity. They are often used in electrical components
